What different risk rankings are available in PHAWorks RA Edition?

PHAWorks RA Edition provides both Lookup Risk Ranking or Calculation Risk Ranking.

In Lookup Risk Ranking, severity and likelihood values are used determine a risk value by lookup in a risk matrix. In Calculation Risk Ranking, severity and likelihood values are added or multiplied together to calculate a risk value. When using Calculation Risk Ranking, it is possible to use up to five parameters to characterize risk instead of just severity and likelihood.

You can employ a single risk ranking for all consequence types addressed in a study, such as impacts on people, property and the environment. Alternatively, a different risk ranking can be defined for each consequence type. In this case, you can elect to use a single consequence type or multiple consequence types for each consequence. The difference is in how the risk rankings are displayed in the worksheet.

There are five sets of risk ranking columns available in the worksheet.

  • Raw Risk - A risk ranking for a scenario without the consideration of safeguards.
  • Risk After Safeguards - A risk ranking for a scenario that accounts for safeguards.
  • Risk After Safeguards (2) - An alternative risk ranking for a scenario, e.g. one that takes credit for certain safeguards, such as passive but not active safeguards, or engineered but not procedural safeguards.
  • Risk After Each Recommendation - A risk ranking for a scenario that accounts for risk reduction by each individual recommendation for a scenario.
  • Risk After All Recommendations - A risk ranking for a scenario that accounts for risk reduction by all recommendations for a scenario.

Risk rankings are saved in project and template files.

When creating a new project, the risk ranking loaded (if enabled) into the project is based on the setting in Risk Ranking Settings in Utilities / Preferences / Risk Ranking.
