MOVING A KEY ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A. INSTALLATION OPTIONS 1. Stand-Alone (run with hard disk key) - Install the software on one computer and lock the key to that hard disk. You will require an unlocking code to activate the program. Run “Activate Key” from the program group and contact Primatech with the information displayed. With this option, you can only run the software on the computer where you activated the key. You have the ability to move the hard disk key from one computer to another using the “Move Activated Key” option. This procedure can be completed an unlimited number of times without contacting Primatech. 2. Stand-Alone (run with floppy key) - Install the software on multiple computers and share the key diskette among individuals to run the software. The key diskette is already activated. You do not need to contact Primatech. With this option, you can install the software on multiple computers and share the floppy key among each other. You have the ability to run the software on multiple computers (at different times), but you need to share the key diskette. When running and exiting the software, the key diskette must be in the floppy drive. The key transfers from the floppy diskette to the computer when running the software. They key transfers back to the floppy diskette when exiting the software. Please note that the floppy key diskette will not work using an external USB floppy drive. 3. Network (run with key on the network) - Install the software and key on a network for people to access the software from their workstations. You will require an unlocking code to activate the program. Run “Activate Key” from the program group and contact Primatech with the information displayed. With this option, the key is on the network. You can have unlimited number of people setup to run the software, but the number of concurrent users is limited to the number of copies/users purchased. You cannot run the software if you are not connected to the network. For both the stand-alone (run with hard disk key) and network (run with key on the network) installs, you do not use the floppy key to run the software. Once you activate the key on the hard disk or network, the floppy key becomes a backup key. The floppy key is not a second key (the key diskette label also reflects this statement). For more detailed explanations concerning these options, please see our support section (FAQ) on our web site at http://www.primatech.com/support. Please do not hesitate to contact us at 614-841-9800 or via email at support@primatech.com with any questions during the installation or use of the software. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ B. I ACTIVATED THE KEY, BUT THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT RUN. WHY? THE MAIN REASONS THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT RUN ARE AS FOLLOWS 1. Users must have full access (read, write, modify change, create, update, etc.) to the key folder. When users log in, they might not have the necessary rights to the folder - "PHAWW5.945" (e.g., for PHAWorks). Based on your install, this may be a system/hidden folder. The system/hidden attributes of the key folder can be removed and are not required for the key to function. 2. We recommend users have full access downward from the main key folder (e.g., "PHAW5KEY" for PHAWorks) that contains the "PHAWW5.945" folder. 3. For network installations, what most locations have done is create a group for the PHAWorks users. 4. For network installations, users must be mapped to the drive containing the key. 5. You cannot use UNC naming for the location of the key. 6. Mapping should not be an issue with stand alone installations. 7. The "Environment Variable" in Windows NT/2000/XP or SET statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file in Windows 95/98/ME was not updated correctly. For example, if you installed the software in a directory with a long name (e.g., "Program Files"), the software may not work correctly. You may need to change the long name to a short name (e.g., "Program Files" to "progra~1"). You cannot use the long name. See #5 of either the Stand Alone or Network installation sections below for setting the key location. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ C. STAND ALONE INSTALLATION HELP C1. PART 1 of 3 (THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING) 1. Under NT/W2000/XP, users must have Admin rights to install the software. 2. The program files location is based on the location you selected during the installation program. 3. Users must have read access to the program directory to run the software. If installed on your local hard disk, you usually have full rights. 4. The key location is based on the folder you selected during the installation program. By default, the install program will always append two folders to the key folder you selected. For example, if you selected C:\KEY as the key folder, the install program will create the following folders for the key (based on the program you installed). Users must have full access (e.g., read, write, change, create, update, modify, etc.) to the *.945 folder or the key folder (e.g., PHAW5KEY for PHAWorks) and all folders downward. The *.945 folder may be a system/hidden folder based on the install version you are using. The *.945 folder is not required to use the attributes of system/hidden. Using installation files created after February 4, 2002, the *.945 folder defaults to not using the system/hidden attributes. If installed on your local hard disk, you usually have full rights. For PHAWorks 5 -- C:\KEY\PHAW5KEY\PHAWW5.945 For AUDITWorks 1 -- C:\KEY\AWW1KEY\AWW1.945 5. The AUTOEXEC.BAT file is updated with a SET statement to point to the location of the key (one folder above the *.945 folder). Under NT/W2000/XP, the a system variable is created, however, SET is not a valid command under NT/W2000/XP. The format of the lines added are as follows: PHAWorks 5 (W95/W98/ME) - SET CC_PATH_PHAWW5= AUDITWorks 1 (W95/W98/ME) - SET CC_PATH_AWW1= PHAWorks 5 (NT/W2000/XP) - Variable = CC_PATH_PHAWW5 / Value = AUDITWorks 1 (NT/W2000/XP) - Variable = CC_PATH_AWW1 / Value = The lines below are also added to run the software using the floppy key diskette. If "A:" is not the letter of your floppy drive (e.g. "B:", you need to change the SET statement/Environment Variable so the software can find the key on the floppy drive. You may need to reboot your computer for the changes to take affect. PHAWorks 5 (W95/W98/ME) - SET CC_PATH_PHAWW5F=A: AUDITWorks 1 (W95/W98/ME) - SET CC_PATH_AWW1F=A: PHAWorks 5 (NT/W2000/XP) - Variable = CC_PATH_PHAWW5F / Value = A: AUDITWorks 1 (NT/W2000/XP) - Variable = CC_PATH_AWW1F / Value = A: ---------------------------------------------------------- C2. PART 2 of 3 (ACTIVATING THE KEY) 1. Run "Activate Key" in the program group. The "Activate Key" program (shortcut) will be usually found in the program group by clicking on Start / Programs / PSMOFFICE 3.2 / (appropriate sub group) or by clicking on Start / Programs/ (appropriate sub group). This is based on how you installed the software. 2. Contact Primatech at 614-841-9800, via email at activate@primatech.com, or use the activate software form (http://www.primatech.com/cgi-bin/_activate.htm) and provide the copy protection information to Primatech. This includes the serial number of the program you purchased. 3. You do not need to keep the key dialog open while waiting for the activation code. When you receive the code, run the "Activate Key" program again to enter the activation code. 4. Click "Next" to proceed. A message will indicate if the activation was successful. ---------------------------------------------------------- C3. PART 3 of 3 (THINGS TO KNOW AFTER INSTALLING) 1. A file called KEY.INI is created in the Key directory. This file contains the path of the key along with other required information. 2. You do not have to uninstall the software to remove the key. 3. You do not have to uninstall the key to remove the software. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ D. NETWORK INSTALLATION HELP D1. PART 1 of 3 (THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING) 1. Under NT/W2000/XP, users must have Admin rights to install the software. 2. Do not complete an installation directly onto the server. This is not required and may not work due to security issues. Install the software from any workstation onto the server. 3. The program files location is based on the location you selected during the installation program. 4. Users must have read access to the program directory to run the software. 5. The key location is based on the folder you selected during the installation program. By default, the install program will always append two folders to the key folder you selected. For example, if you selected G:\KEY as the key folder, the install program will create the following folders for the key (based on the program you installed). For PHAWorks 5 -- G:\KEY\PHAW5KEY\PHAWW5.945 For AUDITWorks 1 -- G:\KEY\AWW1KEY\AWW1.945 6. You cannot use UNC naming for the location of the key. 7. Users must be mapped to the drive containing the key. 8. The AUTOEXEC.BAT file is updated with a SET statement to point to the location of the key (one folder above the *.945 folder). Under NT/W2000/XP, the a system variable is created, however, SET is not a valid command under NT/W2000/XP. The AUTOEXEC.BAT/Environment Variable (system level) update is completed on both the network installation and the workstation installation (e.g., PHA5WS.EXE - see below). PHAWorks 5 (W95/W98/ME) - SET CC_PATH_PHAWW5F=A: AUDITWorks 1 (W95/W98/ME) - SET CC_PATH_AWW1F=A: PHAWorks 5 (NT/W2000/XP) - Variable = CC_PATH_PHAWW5F / Value = A: AUDITWorks 1 (NT/W2000/XP) - Variable = CC_PATH_AWW1F / Value = A: ---------------------------------------------------------- D2. The key only needs to be activated once. The workstation installations will use the key off the network. 3. You do not need to keep the key dialog open while waiting for the activation code. When you receive the code, run the "Activate Key" program again to enter the activation code. 4. Click "Next" to proceed. A message will indicate if the activation was successful. ---------------------------------------------------------- D3. PART 3 of 3 (THINGS TO KNOW AFTER INSTALLING) 1. Network installations also include required workstation installation files. These include AUD1PWS.EXE for AUDITWorks 1 or PHA5WS.EXE for PHAWorks 5 to set up the software on their local workstation. 2. Each user needs to run AUD1PWS.EXE for AUDITWorks 1 or PHA5WS.EXE for PHAWorks 5 to set up the program on their local workstation. This file is located in the program directory. The workstation installation file is not on the CDROM. The CDROM is not required for setting up workstations after completing a network installation. 3. This executable file (e.g., PHA5WS.EXE) gives you the option to install minimal files on the local workstation or all program files on the local workstation. With either option, the key still resides on the network. 4. Users do not have to activate the key from their workstation. The key activation is completed from the original network installation. 5. A file called KEY.INI is created in the Key directory. This file contains the path of the key along with other required information. 6. If you receive "Error -67", this means the number of simultaneous network users has been exceeded. If concurrent users have not been exceeded and you still receive "Error -67", the user may not have the required rights to run the software. See "D1. PART 1 of 3 (THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING)" above for required rights. 7. If people disconnect from the network, they may not be able to run the software since the key may be located on the network. 8. You do not have to uninstall the software to remove the key. 9. You do not have to uninstall the key to remove the software. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ E. MOVING A HARD DISK KEY With PHAWorks 5.05 (patches also available for AUDITWorks 1), you can move a hard disk key from one computer to another  unlimited times. This is similar to using the floppy key, but is done electronically via codes. To move the key from one computer to  another, you must complete the following: steps. These steps assume the key has already been activated on one computer (COMPUTER A) and uses PHAWorks 5.05 as an example. The same steps will also be followed for AUDITWorks 1. 1. Install PHAWorks 5.05 on "COMPUTER B" (the computer in which you wish to activate the key). 2. Run the "Activate Key" program on "COMPUTER B". 3. From "COMPUTER B", save the "Serial Number" listed below the "Product Code". This is NOT the Program Serial Number. 4. Run the "Move Activated Key" program on "COMPUTER A" (the computer in which the key is already activated). 5. Enter the "Serial Number" generated from "COMPUTER B". This will remove the key from "COMPUTER A" and provide you a code to activate the key on "COMPUTER B". The code may be long so you may want to copy and paste the code into a file. 6. Run the "Activate Key" program on "COMPUTER B" and enter the code generated from running "Move Activated Key" on "COMPUTER A". 7. The key will now be activated on "COMPUTER B". ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
